The Enbridge Line 5 pipeline is a hot environmental topic in Michigan. The company that owns the twin pipelines that run through Michigan’s Straits of Mackinac is the same company that caused the largest inland oil spill in US history. Their Line 6B pipeline ruptured and spilled 1.1 million gallons of oil into the Kalamazoo River in southern Michigan.
The trust level for the company was at an all-time low in Michigan after the 2010 oil spill in the Kalamazoo River. But now, many environmental groups, businesses, municipalities, tribes, and thousands of citizens want the State of Michigan to shut down their Line 5 pipeline before it ruptures into the Great Lakes.
We are producing a series of videos to remind people about the calamitous Enbridge oil spill, and to look at the potential negative effects should Line 5 spill into the Great Lakes.
This is our second collaboration with NWF Great Lakes Region.
